  Fibromyalgia Injury Attorney

Fibromyalgia is a little known but increasingly common disease that affects 3- 6 million Americans. For reasons we are not completely sure of, fibromyalgia most often affects women. In fact, an astonishing 80%-90% of fibromyalgia sufferers are women. What makes this disease so difficult is that it is often hard to diagnose, adding to the pain and frustration patients feel.

Fibromyalgia is a painful disorder associated with extreme muscle pain, fatigue and tender points along the body. Patients suffering from fibromyalgia find it difficult to work, drive and even enjoy an active lifestyle. As the disorder worsens, patients often find themselves on multiple medications simply to perform simple daily activities and manage the pain. There are multiple symptoms and causes of fibromyalgia.

Symptoms of Fibromyalgia:

  • Muscle and Joint Pain
  • Tender points along the neck, back and spine that are tender to palpate or touch
  • Stiffness
  • Headaches
  • Numbness in hands and feet with or without tingling
  • “Fibro Fog”- problems with memory or thinking
  • Sleeping difficulties

Causes of Fibromyalgia:

  • Infections: In some situations, fibromyalgia appears to be caused by the development of certain illnesses
  • Physical or Emotional Trauma: Car accidents, traumatic stress and even post traumatic stress disorders have all been associated with developing fibromyalgia
  • Genetics: There appears to be evidence that fibromyalgia runs in families, leading experts to consider a genetic link to the disorder.

If you have been diagnosed with fibromyalgia, you may be entitled to collect Social Security Disability  benefits and/or workman's compensation. Due to its complex nature, obtaining benefits to deal with the disabilities associated with fibromyalgia can be difficult. Since there is no blood test or medical test that can definitively prove the existence of fibromyalgia,  you will need a qualified personal attorney on your side. Your attorney will need to prove that the debilitating affects of fibromyalgia have prevented you from working and have created real limitations to your abilities. Attorneys will need to submit supporting medical records and may even need to use medical experts to prove to the courts that  fibromyalgia meets all the impairment categories used in Social Security cases.

If your fibromyalgia was caused by a car accident or as a direct result of trauma you received, you may be entitled to receive compensation. Medical bills and lost wages can damage your credit rating and place you in financial hardships. If your disabilities are a result of another person's negligence, you may be entitled to receive compensation.

If you suffer from fibromyalgia, you should not be denied disability benefits. If you have been denied disability, contact a personal attorney today to receive the benefits you deserve.
